A data diode is a cyber security device that enforces unidirectional data flow between two
networks, commonly used in high-security environments like defence and industrial facilities.
It securely transmits data from critical systems to external networks, including the Internet,
while blocking any incoming data to protect sensitive networks from attack. Acting as a
"one-way valve," a data diode prevents cyber threats from entering the high-security network.
As part of "defence-in-depth" strategies, it enhances network segmentation by isolating
trusted and untrusted networks, minimizing attack surfaces and securing critical infrastructure.
SALIENT FEATURES OF DATA DIODE
Detailed system salient features are appended below:
Enables one-way communication between networks
Ensure information protection by design
Hardware implemented solution thus requiring no firewall
High throughout and robust performance
Fully compatible with UDP based protocol application such as: UDP stream /Broadcast
protocol and UDP encrypted file transfer
Forward Error correction (FEC) for lost packets
Ensure data reliability
Provision of providing additional services like file transfer
Data diode is capable of interfacing with existing network and server configuration, while
providing uni-directional data flow with up to a data rate of 1 GB/s. In particular, diode join the
secure and unsecure networks while ensuring desired one-way communication between two
systems.
